LOCATION: The Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast, privileged to be the only lodging located within the Cape Cod National Seashore Park! We enjoy sea breezes and are surrounded by National Seashore nature trails and scenic views. Situated on 3 private acres of gardens that are surrounded by 100 acres of scenic views and walking trails, the small inn offers guests an opportunity to experience the natural wonder of Cape Cod, either from the private screen-gazebo on the property, or from one of the several trails surrounding the inn. Grab your camera and binoculars to view the birds or watch whales spout just off of Coast Guard Beach. Walk to the waters edge at Hemenway Landing. Or launch your Kayak and paddle through Nauset Marsh to the great outer beach, where Thoreau and Henry Beston wrote their famous books Cape Cod and Outermost House. Rent a bike nearby to explore the miles of bike trails or to bike to the beach. The small inn is just 5 minutes from National Seashore beaches, NEEI and Cape Cod Institute, the towns of Orleans and Wellfleet and 25 minutes from the charming villages of Chatham to the south and Provincetown to the north. If you are looking for a real Cape Cod experience, you have come to the right place! The property is listed on the National Historic Register and comes with a rich history that we will be pleased to share with you. It is difficult to judge the feeling of an inn from the web site alone but I can promise you that we are not on the highway (Rt. 6, County Road) and we are not in a busy neighborhood. We are in a historic district with a whaling museum, and one other private residence on a country road that dead ends with the most spectacular views of Nauset Marsh and the Atlantic Ocean on the outer Cape. ACCOMMODATIONS/RATES:
The Emma Suite, on the first floor of the main house, is a large, gracious three-room suite. It has a private library/sitting room, with mahogany piano, AC, WIFI, Cable TV, AM/FM, Flat screen TV/DVD. There is a set of French doors leading to the bedroom with a four-poster queen bed. In the large private bath there is an over-sized cast iron soaking tub with shower, spacious vanity sink and window seat. The 2011 nightly rates range from $225-$275 with no additional taxes or fees.
The Lucille suite, on the second floor of the main house, retains its period details and is quite charming. It has a bright bedroom with slanted eves ceiling, queen bed, Cable TV, Flat Screen TV/DVD, WIFI, AC, AM/FM, original wide pine floors, a walk in closet, private hall that winds around the banister leading to a dressing room with vanity adjacent to the private bathroom with tub/shower. I must mention that the stairs going to the second floor suite are original to the house, circa 1864, and as such are narrow and steeper than those in modern houses. The 2011 nightly rates range from $200-$250 with no additional taxes or fees.
The totally private Nantucket cottage, with ocean views and gas fireplace is located a few steps away from the main house. It is our most popular and spacious accommodation. In addition to a private patio and garden the Nantucket boasts 800 sq. ft. of private interior space. On the first floor there is a "kitchen" area with maple counters, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot and farm sink (no stove). Also on the first floor there is a bathroom with pedestal sink and tiled stall-shower, and a wonderful large living room with cathedral ceiling, shuttered windows, gas fireplace, sofa and chairs (sofa opens to bed), views over farm fields to the marsh and ocean, Cable TV, AC, WIFI, Flat Screen TV/DVD, and AM/FM radio. On the second floor overlooking the living room is a charming Cape Cod bedroom with queen-bed dressed in top quality linens, maple -plank floors and skylight. The cottage receives all of the services and amenities we offer in the main house. The 2011 nightly rates range from $275-$360 with no additional taxes or fees. Weekly rates are discounted by $25/night for the cottage.
